The Port of Fishguard provides berthing and handing for ferry traffic to Ireland. Ferry traffic is the Ports primary commercial interest based on vessel numbers, however this is supported commercial and cruise vessels, military support vessels and fishing craft, along with occasional bunkering barge deliveries. The Port also provides a berth for the RNLI inshore and all weather Trent class lifeboat. The harbour has the capacity to accommodate additional vessels at anchor although this is not a common practice; anchoring within the approaches to the ferry terminal is prohibited and holding grounds in some areas of the harbour are poor. The statutory harbour area covers the northern Breakwater extending from Pen Cw and the Easterly Breakwater at Goodwick sands.

Future Development Plans
Plans in are in place for Spring 2019 to remove the existing linkspan which is approaching the end of its life and replace it with a modern linkspan. The upgrading of the facilities is to replace the linkspan with a two lane linkspan design to comply with modern standards. The extent of the civil works and the new linkspan shall allow for a larger range of vessels to use the Port, and provide space for any expansion if this is required in the future.

Chart Datum
Chart Datum (CD) is a level set low enough to ensure that the tide rarely falls below it. The UK usually determines this as being approximately the level of Lowest Astronomical Tide. In effect, this is the minimum depth that can be achieved by a quayside or port entrance channel.
Datwm Siart
Mae Datwm Siart (CD) yn lefel a osodir yn ddigon isel i sicrhau mai anaml iawn fydd y llanw yn disgyn oddi tano. Mae'r DU yn diffinio hyn fel arfer fel tua lefel y Llanw Seryddol Isaf. Mewn gwirionedd, dyma'r dyfnder lleiaf y gellir ei gyflawni gan lan y cei neu sianel mynedfa porthladd.
Vessel Dimensions
Length overall (LOA) means the maximum length of a vessel's hull when measured parallel to the waterline.
A ship’s beam refers to its width at the widest point, when measured at the ship's nominal waterline.
The draft of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull (keel), which includes the thickness of the hull. The draft of a ship or boat signifies the minimum depth of water it can safely navigate.
Dimensiynau Llongau
Mae cyfanswm hyd (LOA) yn golygu uchafswm hyd corff llong pan fesurir hynny yn gyfochrog â llinell y dŵr.
Mae lled llong yn cyfeirio at ei lled yn y rhan lletaf, pan fesurir hynny wrth linell dŵr nominal y llong.
Dyfnder corff llong yw'r pellter fertigol rhwng llinell y dŵr a gwaelod corff y llong (cêl), sy'n cynnwys trwch corff y llong. Mae dyfnder cwch neu long yn nodi isafswm dyfnder y dŵr y gall ei fordwyo'n ddiogel.
